We’ve added a BONUS HOUR on September 22nd. See below for more details!!

Intense High & Divine Birth Wisdom  Are Honored to Present the Roots-N-Bush Online Birth Conference. Our mission during this conference is to showcase the rich spirituality, history, and birth customs of Black women all over the world. Currently, we live in a time where there is serious culture appropriation that has spilled over into the natural birth community. The Roots-N-Bush Online Conference presents a platform where we claim our Black birth traditions and customs, from herbs, roots, rituals, and food and share it with a new generation of women hungry to learn, practice and incorporate these customs in their lives and birth work.

We have gathered together a powerfully enriching roster of women whose life/work embody passion for the holistic well-being of Black women, children and families. Each of our guests will be interviewed with thought provoking questions so that they may share their knowledge and pearls of wisdom. After each interview, the listening and viewing audience will have the opportunity to participate in question and answer sessions.

This conference is for birth workers, parents, students and anyone who values the holistic approach to natural birthing within Black and Indigenous communities.

There will be three ways to access this conference:

1. This is an online conference that will be presented in a webinar format via internet.

2. There will also be a teleconference option for those who prefer or need to listen to the presentations by telephone.

3. The conference will also be recorded so that you can listen to it at any time after the event. (See below for special savings on the recordings)

mamaosun_aMama Osun, Midwife is a counselor, childbirth educator, healer, caretaker, spiritual guide as well as a granny midwife. She embraces birth as a natural process that is very much a spiritual journey as it is a physical one. She has counseled teen mothers, couples and apprenticed women who have the desire and received the call to become a midwife. She is the bridge that brings together today’s generation of midwives to the spiritual and traditional understanding of the midwifery. Mama Osun is a mother of four and grand mother of many.

asiila 2Asiila bintal Garner (aka Asiila Imani) became interested in natural pregnancy and birth after losing 3 consecutive children, all during the 2nd trimester. Her 4th pregnancy (1985) ended in a hyper-medicalized hospital birth of a 5-week premature son who survived.  From 1994 – 1998, Asiila studied under two traditional/licensed midwives, and enrolled in the Doula Assistant Program with the Association of Labor Assistants and Childbirth Educators (ALACE). Although the majority of her experience has been doula work, she has also served as a midwife assistant and primary midwife. Asiila has supported birthing women of all races, religions and ethnicities in hospitals, birth centers and homes. In May of 1997, Asiila’s home birth dream came true! At the age of 40 and “high risk,” she delivered her second and last surviving child.  Another highlight was meeting and sitting at the feet of the late great granny midwife, Margaret Smith at the Mother Oak Conferences in Eugene, OR in 2001 and 2003.  Asiila has a B.A in Communications and Sociology/Black Studies from Washington State University. She has worked in a variety of social service positions; and as a copy editor/writer with The San Diego Voice and Viewpoint  community newspaper. For 6 years, she was the Outreach Specialist for the San Diego Birthing Project. She currently home schools, tutors language arts and raises chickens.  After a hiatus from coping with too many mama/baby traumas caused by the hospital birth protocols, Asiila is getting back into the birthing arena, working mostly with women who plan to deliver in birth centers or at home. She is searching for an apprenticeship to complete her midwifery training and become a CPM  and community midwife. In this 56th solar year, Asiila began her ‘crone wise woman’ life stage. Her man cubs are now 28 and 16; her step granddaughters, 12 and 10. She lives in San Diego, CA with her youngest son, husband and sister wife.
